Mell news: today was my first day off in a while. I spent it trying to find inspiration to draw while out in public but I ended up uninspired and spent the rest of my time out trying to find good selfie lighting. Now I’m just trying to study my German but with no one to study WITH it never feels very fruitful shrugs. Good luck with learning your Latin and programming those both seem difficult to me OMG…
Hurray for having a day off! Need a sanity break once in a while, right? Hope you found some good lighting, even if everything else wasn’t cooperating.
I feel like we have a good half-dozen languages floating around with all the Foxes, maybe we can find people with common interests or hopes and be long-distance study partners? IDK. Self-study for language can definitely be frustrating at times. What about lang-8 for extra practice? Are you studying from a textbook or a website?
@korakos
This pretty much sums up my day!! I joined gywo so I’m working on writing 450 words today and listening to classical music with my smol rat son. As soon as my awful cold is over with I’m starting practice on audiobook recording.I’m so impressed by people who can learn languages, especially self taught. I know some asl and i know braille up to level two, but i am the Worst at learning things like that.
!! A rat! Is it true they are as smart as people say? My sisters had some pet rats for a while but that was after I was out of the house, so I never really got to see them interact. HELLO RAT SON.
ASL! Brilliant :O Such a useful thing to know – such an unexpected yes I can communicate with you, I’m here. You saw the video of the mall Santa & the little girl speaking ASL? and/or the Disney princesses using ASL for a child’s first visit? ((Maybe I saw them on your tumblr, it’s so hard to keep sources straight)). Amazing. One day I’d like to study it.
We have some braille Starbucks cards at work – a customer and I were just talking about how fascinating it was, and how impressive that people could learn it. Nicely done!
Good luck with the writing! Go go go go go
Happy New Year, Nora! Best of luck with your scheduling. It’s smart to designate a day for each of the studies. As someone said to me once, “a Tuesday comes around more often than ‘later.’” :) 日本語もがんばってね!
Here in LA it’s raining, and is supposed to rain for the next three days! Holy shit, this is pretty high levels of excitement. I foresee a lot of tea and cat snuggling.
Speaking of Japanese, where did you live in Japan? Any favorite experiences you’d recommend? Favorite onsen? :D
Happy New Year!
Ha, thanks! It sounded like a good idea in theory, now I just gotta figure out if I have the self-control to stick with it. Man, you want to trade that rain for some of our flurries? JK, just glad to hear SoCal is raining instead of on fire again. ;D Also, what do you mean tea, why tea, tea is an abomination. But def thumbs-up on the cat snuggling.
I spent most of a year in Nagoya, then divided the rest of my time between Fukuoka & Tokyo. I used to think my trip to Kyoto was the best, and I still recommend it to anyone visiting the country, but I think some of my favorite memories are wandering Kichijoji at night and listening to the street musicians play. For some reason it just made everything seem right, made it seem like anyone really could start over and do anything, be anything, live a dream.
Onsen.. none to recommend, never really went to one!
チョウ難しいだろう、日本語。全部忘れちゃってるよ。でも頑張ってます!
Not much happening in the boring world of Emerald, other than my binge watching Parks and Rec. It’s been a good decision so far. Also, you are a real go getter to be learning Latin AND programming. I took Latin in college once-worst decision of my life tbh. The grammar is so ridiculous. But you learned Japanese, so you’ll be fine. :)
Parks & Rec, huh?! I’ve heard a lot of good things about the show, and I see a lot of gifs going around for it, but I’m so anti-comedy I can’t even make myself get through the pilot. Alas. It seems like half the people on Tumblr have had a brush-in with Latin, so I’ll just go crying to my dashboard if the grammar really does turn out to be a sticky mess, ha.
monday check-in
Morning tumblr!
It’s Monday, so tell me what’s up with you! I guess I made it harder on us by turning off Asks, but feel free to @ me or reblog this with your news or message me, whatever works.
My “news” : I’ve skipped making resolutions in favor of focusing on time management. I mentioned last time I’m trying to learn Latin & programming this year, and that I also want to get back into Japanese, etc etc. I’ve decided to try and treat these things as if I’m going to online school, and I’ve scheduled specific days for each “class”. The times are flexible because my work schedule is constantly changing, but at least I know what to expect each day. Hopefully by setting that level of expectation/commitment I can stick with things for longer.
Today is the first real day of work on the “new” project.
* one day I really will write something new and stop rewriting everything a thousand times. not.
Okay. I was seriously thrown by the title when this first crossed my dash (How dare he belittle her!), so I saved it to read after I had seen the film. Now I’ve seen it and I’m going through all my read-later-links and OH MY GOD YES ALL OF THE THINGS I AGREE ALL THE WAY I’M NOT CRYING YOU’RE CRYING FINALLY SOMEONE GETS IT!!!
It does contain *!!* SPOILERS *!!* so if you haven’t seen the film yet, fave it or reblog it or whatever to come back to later, because this is too good a read to miss. The title is seriously misleading, guys, but this is a great read. Though yes, there are HUGE SPOILERS for TFA.
spoilers abound, but super important

“The Music Makers“ What is this? Why do I not remember this? [Where] can I read it? Is it an original work? Weiss?
The Music Makers was an Eames/Arthur Inception fic, haha.. If you’re still interested I’ll see about getting it posted somewhere – right now it’s all over the place on livejournal, not consolidated into a single space.
um, OF COURSE. If it’s on livejournal, let me know and maybe I can find it and save you the trouble.
one . two . three . four . five . six . seven . eight . nine . ten . eleven . twelve . thirteen
holy god, didn’t realize it was that old of a story
Sorry it’s so scattered; I always meant to put it up on PoB but never got around to it

Hey, tumblr, just realized it’s a new year! That means two things:
1) I have to watch The Force Awakens again, I haven’t seen it since last year
and
2) It’s time to rewatch the greatest show on earth aka

Thanks to @coldsaturn keeping better track of things than I ever have ((and probably ever will)) the Foxhole Court Asks archive is finally up to date. I didn’t organize it very well when I first set it up, because honestly I didn’t think it’d get more than 20 questions and therefore wouldn’t need proper categories, so it’s kind of a mess right now. I’ll try to clean it up later, but for now it’s done.
Thank you all so much!
“He tapped out a simple “Happy New Year” to the Foxes. Betsy had told them Andrew’s phone was confiscated for the duration of his stay at Easthaven, but Neil added his number anyway and pressed SEND.
The response was almost immediate. By the time the midnight countdown started on the screen, by the time Neil looked up and watched the flashing ball start its descent, he’d already heard back from his entire team, most of them in caps-lock and with extraneous exclamation marks. He’d ignored them through Christmas but they seemed excited to hear from him now. He was their family. They were his.”
– The Raven King, Nora Sakavic
HAPPY NEW YEAR, FOXES!
