“Kevin sank back onto the cushion, but he was paying more attention to Riko than where he was going. He ended up with his tight pressed against Neil’s, hard enough Neil could feel him trembling. ”

It feels like this is a relict from when Nora still planned on them as the main ship (if I understood correctly that this was the one ship she went back to to write it out and write the other one in???)

The original plot of the story– back when it was still a shoddily drawn comic– was to hook up two guys. ‘twas when my sisters & I first discovered what fun yaoi & m/m love could be. So I created Neil and Kevin and then grudgingly drew a team around them. The couple carried over into the book, at least for the first couple drafts, and then the more I wrote Andrew, the more I tried to stuff him in there with them because I loved him, so for a draft or two it ended up being a threesome.

A few years back an agent asked to see the first few chapters, and I panicked, thinking, “There is too much about this book that is insane, I can’t give her a book that has illogical drugs and a fake sport and a misplaced yakuza AND three boys who like to bang I can’t I can’t—” and so I didn’t. I started a version where I wrote Kevin out. For a little while I grieved, but he’d been the weakest link since Andrew joined them, and with him out of the mix the characters finally seemed to figure out who they were.

Uh, end ramble.

Obv the agent ended up passing, but I have no regrets ;D
