I feel guilty combining Asks, but these two were easier to answer together! Sorry!!

Anon 1: I love that this fandom has flourished. Maybe this is a better Ask for the community as a whole, but can we get on the same page for where we can find/share fanfiction/art? I know you have shared some pieces, but seem to come from different corners of internet, which is cool, except I barely know how to navigate tumblr so I don’t really know to find it. Also, what’s your opinion on fanfiction? I know you’re not 100% opposed, but if you have any thoughts or boundaries…

Anon 2: What’s it like reading fanfiction based off of your own work? Reading reviews?

I love it too!! I never dreamed that such a thing was possible, especially for such a crazy story. Sometimes I still don’t think it’s real– I’ll look at a post that says The Foxhole Court on it and go “Nah, they’re probably talking about someone else’s story right now” or “What if there are TWO Nora Sakavics out there and I am not the one they meant?!!” so it’s a little wild sometimes. Ha!

Ahhh, for right now the only way I know of finding things, aside from the three stories up on AO3, is by using the tumblr tag the foxhole court or searching it (usually same results, I think? I legit am not sure if there’s a real difference). I don’t think anything is broken up further than that, but I might be wrong? If there’s another tag someone knows of, please let me know!

Regarding fanfiction: The first time it was a little jarring, because I wasn’t used to sharing my psycho babies, but it’s pretty cool! The fact that people are willing to spend time on the books outside of just sitting down to give them a read-through is really amazing. I don’t have any boundaries that I know of, and really, any boundaries that might develop would be for what I was comfortable picking up and looking at, not boundaries against what people could create. That’s the beauty of fan work, isn’t it? The sky’s the limit, and anything goes. I spent 13~ years writing fics for other people’s works; if someone had tried to tell me I could write A & B but not C, that would have taken a bit of the fun out of it..! I don’t want to police what people make.

Reading reviews…. If you mean reviews of the books, I stopped reading reviews a while back. ((On the main sites like Amazon & Goodreads, I mean–I still see pieces pop up once in a while here on Tumblr and once I’ve seen it I have to read it, ha.)) It was just too frightening and stressful! I’d click over, see the number had gone up, and thought “What if it’s an angry review?!” and I’d end up peeking between my fingers as I scrolled. So nerve-wracking!

I definitely don’t expect or want everyone to like the books, and I’m glad people are open about their opinions either way—gives readers a more honest look at a story, and also sometimes can help a writer see what to improve on—but it’s one thing to know that and another thing to see someone go “what the hell did I just waste my life on? This is so stupid!” It’s hard to not feel a little bruised, but I think time & experience will make it easier to take feelings out of the mix.
