It’d have to start with Matt, since Neil’s been trained not to look too long at girls. Matt & Dan are comfortable enough with each other – know they’re committed enough to each other – that they would actually talk it out and debate how best to loop Neil into their relationship. Dan would give Matt the greenlight to flirt with Neil, and Matt would have to later walk Neil through his issues with attraction to women.

Neil opening up to them would be a much slower process than opening up to Andrew was, but they would reward his halting honesty & confessions with such affection. Because really, that’s one of the crucial differences between D&M & N&A, yeah? Dan and Matt have that casual loving affection they don’t try to hide, and they would treat Neil with the same devotion & adoration. Dan wouldn’t hesitate to kiss Neil on the court after a game, and Matt is easygoing enough to slip his hand into Neil’s if he thinks Neil’s getting uptight about something.

They’re also.. calmer? steadier. I can’t find the right word to shine on them that doesn’t somehow sound like Andrew & Neil are lacking. There’s a whole different level of emotional maturity there, and the capacity for such sweetness. It would take a while for Neil to understand he’s not a third wheel, but imagine him a couple years down the road after they’ve been so warm with him for so long.

Neil would have a raucous, affectionate mother-in-law in Randy Boyd, and of course a quasi-father-in-law with Coach Wymack. Once Dan acquires the Foxes he’d spend a lot more time in South Carolina outside of his team’s practice & games schedule, and he’d better get to know the future Foxes and Kevin’s new family.

Imagine Dan finding out she’s pregnant, and not caring who the father is because Matt & Neil are both going to be the fathers. Imagine children.


And because this is getting a little too soft and fuzzy for me::

now imagine Andrew if Neil chose Dan & Matt over him.
