@korakos

You’ve got that right. I did end up finding some awesome lighting and I got some damn good pictures of my killer makeup.

Ah!! That would be great if I could find a study partner in the band of foxes. I’ve been studying for almost two years now on my own and it’s like I never get anywhere with it. I have Rosetta Stone, Duolingo, and Mango languages though I’ve never tried Lang-8?? What is it exactly

Lang-8, if I remember correctly – haven’t used it in a while – is basically an online journal. You post entries in your target language, and native speakers can stop by and critique your grammar and vocabulary. So it’s not very helpful re: the spoken language, but it does help a bit with the writing side of things.

There’s also Rocket Languages, which is surprisingly entertaining despite the fact the website looks like it’s a scam. Years & years ago I bought the Japanese program from it for review. It’s basically learning through shadowing conversations – you’ll listen to a conversation, they’ll break it down and explain grammar, culture, vocab, etc, and then they’ll do the conversation again in pieces with pauses for you to echo. Helps with cadence, pronunciation, and flow, and they’ve included grammar worksheets and games and such – and the forums are a great place to look for other people who are studying. Also the conversations can be downloaded so you don’t have to sit at a computer – I used to put ‘em on my phone so I could practice on the walk to work.
