I…I honestly feel like I’m not the right person to answer this question because I legit have only 20 hours of game on me, against the 1559 someone else who I won’t name ( @korakos) does, but hey, you know what, let this newbie tell you what the secret world is.
- it’s an mmorpg
- h.p. lovecraft, indiana jones, stephen king are some of the main inspirations
- a filthy fog covered everything, and it brought zombies and demons and nightmares and whatever else from the folklore of all over the world are now walking on earth
- survivors are coping as they can
- some better than others
- you are “some”
- for reasons still unknown to me there are people who unintentionally swallowed bees and now they have powers and visions and all the fun stuff
- you can make your character choose between three factions: illuminati (they have money and power and they like to fuck shit up?), templars (I have a bad relationship with templars ever since assassin’s creed, especially because they still are the same thing; ideology and purging but also a lot of old connections and power etc), dragon (chill dudes who claim they can control the domino effect, their hobby is watching templars and illuminati trying to kill each other)
- forget about games where you start weak and hopeless unless you grind for 38493 hours. here it’s all about having abilities that work well together
- I won’t delve deep into the mechanics of the game because this was just your “what is it” ask, but let me tell you even though the combat system is pretty simple and repetitive, you will have fun finding your best combinations of active and passive skills (you have more than 500 to choose from, and you can unlock all of them), and you still will find your challenges
- damn this game is so plastic, like you want to go hammer and chaos magic? you do you pal. what about shotgun and blade? sure? and blade and fists? whatever floats your boat mate.
- dont’ worry about getting bored of your choice though because you can learn the ability of ANY OTHER WEAPON bless
- YOU CAN RUN SOLO
- LET ME REPEAT YOU CAN RUN SOLO *weeps tears of joy
- the NPCs are so interesting??? and round??? and the plot promises so many mysteries and surprises and asdfghjkl I want to know what the hell is going on
- have I already told you that the subscription is optional? means that once you buy the basic game (30 dollars) you’re done, you don’t have to add a cent unless you want
- it has quotes like “I’ve tried prayer, I’ve tried my .44, but Satan’s wearing kevlar and bible-thumping just pisses them off”
- also one of the mission givers at the beginning of the game managed to survive the suicide call when the fog came because she was in the middle of a bondage session and she was physically unable to follow everyone else and drown in the sea
- it’s basically a creepily fun game, with creepy and awesome atmosphere, voice acting for all the main missions, so much plot!, what is sexual orientation when there’s zombies everywhere and that’s the only other alive human you’ve seen in weeks, witty and hilarious dialogues (bless the writers), AN AWESOME COMMUNITY
- like I only know of one person who plays it as of now, but literally every single review I’ve read around talks about what an awesome community tsw has, full of people always ready to help and support and basically they’re all precious
- RP. SO MUCH RP EITHER IN-GAME OR OUT THIS GAME JUST SCREAMS AT YOU TO MAKE OCs AND DROP THEM IN
- andy. we need more andy.
goddamit this guy cracks me up
aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA TSW IS MY LIFE, YA’LL DON’T EVEN UNDERSTAND
