a small collection of answers before I fall off the face of the earth again
((I might come back later to talk books, but knowing me, “later” could be “tonight” or “in three weeks”))
@annoyingclandestine @l-eventa @stilldolldemon @conundrum-josten
First one got a little long, so the rest are under the cut.
@annoyingclandestine Hello lovie! Thank you for taking a chance on my books! I’m really glad you’ve enjoyed them. :D
The rest of your answer is a little long, and is not entirely directed at you <3 It is a question that has come up before, so let me attempt to clarify my stance on translations.
It is immensely flattering that people want the books translated, and it means so much to me that people want to share the Fox books with their friends, and I know having the books limited to a single language makes things a bit difficult on that front.
But: I am not in a position to pursue translations, nor am I comfortable with unofficial translations. I’ve said before that I have nothing against fan translations, but that was said as part of a larger conversation: namely, that I do not think fan translations are in any way inferior to professional translations.
When the time comes, I want the translations to be official. In short, I want to pay someone for the time and energy it takes to translate three books from one language to another, I want to tweak the books as necessary to reflect the enormous effort the translator’s put into it, and I want to release the books into their new markets. That hasn’t changed; that won’t change.
But life is expensive and my first priority is making ends meet, so I keep putting it off out of necessity. That doesn’t mean I’ve given up hope. When I’m finally in a position to do something about it, you all will be the first to know. Until then, I can only ask for patience and understanding. <3
@l-eventa Europe had Exy before the US had Exy – while Tetsuji stayed behind to make sure it took off in Japan, Kayleigh worked on getting Exy established in Europe. I imagine the rules would stay pretty much the same between the UK & US.
@stilldolldemon Exy is not played on skates, but that sounds like it’d be fun, ha :)
@conundrum-josten Honestly? I don’t know. TFC is ancient, but it spent at least half its life in comic format, and when I think of the Foxes that is what I default to. I see them as 2D outlines, scribbles on college-ruled paper, smudged lead and unchanging outfits. The only reason Andrew has a set face for me is because I saw a gif set and loved the way he used his hands. The rest of them I can’t pin down, and whenever I try to imagine them I see them only as words on pages and scripted dialogue. It’s why I used to love seeing fancasts – I wanted to know who the Foxes were when they stopped being just words. The TL;DR is:: Matt’s face is up to you :)
