learning that someone doesnt like harry potter is honestly the most heartbreaking and life changing thing like u could kill a man and id still be more shocked and upset learning that u dont like harry potter

I was living in San Francisco when Harry Potter 7B came out. In the months leading up to it, they put its posters on the bus stop overhangs. On the way home from work once, the couple on the bus beside me started talking about it, but it was obviously they had no idea what it was or what the hype was about. “I keep seeing that poster everywhere.”, “Yeah, I think it’s that movie about magic or something?”, “Oh, really?”

I just couldn’t believe that they could be that—oblivious.

Like, I know Harry Potter wasn’t for everyone, but it felt like a defining part of a generation. How could anyone grow up then and not know a single thing about it?
