So a while ago, my friend, whom I got addicted to AftG, was feeling down because of a family situation. I asked her how I could help, and suggested I could write a little something. She liked the idea so I wrote her a ficlet.

Last week, I got Sab (sister/roommate) to read the series and she read the whole thing in fours days (while working full time). She then complained she needed moaaar of them, so I sent her the ficlet. Now she’s asked me to add to it, because “you get Andrew so well and I want to know what he’s thinking when ___ happens!”

Now I’m half tempted to write it before I tackle DAV90 again, but I mean… DAV readers have had nothing for like two months while I was moving and sick… D:

It would be weird making it public though. It’s one thing to write a fic about a series you know the author would never peek at but…

and I have been friends for over twelve years so writing a fic based on her work is kind of… awkward? She hasn’t read it, obviously. But she probably would if I posted it… So then, what if I mess up the characterisation or it doesn’t fit the events in her head?! DDD: So I’m more nervous about posting this than I would anything else, really.. ;;

Lovie, how—why?—would I ever look at something and tell you you are wrong? I showed you my tiny view of a world–how could you or anyone “mess up” what you see in it? You chose to use your time on the Foxes; how could I not love anything about it?

I’m actually in the middle of getting Amazon’s Createspace to create paperback copies, but I’m doing it under duress. The company sets a base price dependent on printing costs and distribution options, and because the books get successively larger that base goes up on each one. It’s a little horrifying to me to have cheap ebooks and then those printed prices, but I promised a friend I’d go through with it. In advance: I am sorry and I am not actually expecting anyone but her to get copies and I am OK with that.

A couple months ago I remember warning my friend aionwatha not to get me started talking about Foxhole Court because once I get going I will not shut up. I can’t–it’s like a disease, a consequence of playing with (see: abusing) the same characters for 17 years.

Case in point: the ask I’m attempting to answer regarding Andrew & Mama Bee**. Some 600 words later I still haven’t finished rambling and I don’t even know if I addressed the question the way I was supposed to.

But let me trip over that again – seventeen years. Seventeen years of giving up & trying to walk away, then crawling back because despite how ridiculous the whole thing is I just didn’t want to let it go. For the longest time I knew if I could get just one stranger to read it and believe in it with me it would all be worth it. That was all I wanted, all I needed, please somebody believe in Neil

And now here we are, and here you are, and I wish I had words for how amazing you all are. You are the loveliest people I could ever hope to meet. Thank you feels horribly insufficient, but Thank you.
